Pelvic Health Physical Therapy for Men
Our specialty services address the unique pelvic health needs of men. The two primary pelvic health needs of men are urinary leakage and pelvic pain (often associated with prostatitis). Bladder leakage most commonly effects men immediately following prostate surgery. Research has shown that the sooner men begin pelvic floor rehabilitation the sooner this leakage is reduced and with up to 90% of men that complete physical therapy regaining full bladder control. In fact, men that participate in care before and after surgery have even faster recovery.
Pelvic pain in men is often associated with pelvic floor muscle tightness and spasms that can cause pain throughout the pelvis, abdomen, and genital area and can impact comfort with sitting, exercise, and sexual function. Often men with pelvic pain are mis-diagnosed with prostatitis (inflammation of the prostate gland) and symptoms do not respond to medication. Targeted pelvic health care is needed to reduce the muscle spasm and improve the health and function of the region; this eliminates pain.
The most important component to specialized pelvic health care is education. We will work closely with you to ensure we understand your symptoms and can educate you on how the pelvic muscles may be impacting your health. Together we will get you back to playing at the top of your game.
