PT Thoughts: Brandon Langworthy

In this month’s edition of PT Thoughts we are going to learn a bit more about one of the PT’s in our Fuquay clinicBrandon Langworthy, PT.

Was there an experience that led you to become a PT?

During undergrad, I initially thought that I wanted to go to medical school.  While shadowing orthopaedic surgeons, I had the opportunity to work with the rehab team and fell in love with the rehab and recovery aspect that physical therapy provides.  At that time, I realized that I enjoy the patient interaction and ability to watch patients get better to help improve their overall quality of life.

What is your favorite thing to treat and why?

I enjoy working in an outpatient physical therapy setting because it allows me to help patients with a variety of issues from head to toe.  One of my favorite groups to work with is rotational athletes, such as golfers, baseball players, and football players.  I enjoy teaching them how to become stronger while improving the mechanics to help them become better and more efficient at their crafts.

What is one of your favorite patient stories?

I was working with a veteran who was in a motor vehicle accident that left him unable to walk and wheelchair-bound.  We spent 2 years slowly regaining his confidence, strength, mobility, and function. While his injuries were extensive, he was always present for therapy sessions and worked persistently every time we met. Over the 2 years I worked with him, I gained an admiration for his persistence, hard work, and dedication to getting better. I not only gained this appreciation for this patient; I also gained a friend.

Where are you from and what sports did you play growing up?

I grew up right down the road in Garner, NC and never thought that I would be living so close to where I grew up.  I attended undergrad at ECU where I met my wife, Kristen, who is a dentist in Fuquay.  We have enjoyed choosing Fuquay to settle down and raise our almost 4 yr old daughter, Braelyn, 1.5 yr old son, Ryland, and our 2 dogs and 2 cats.

Growing up, I played almost every sport that I could. I thoroughly enjoyed being outside and playing sports with my friends. In high school, I lettered in 3 varsity sports – golf, soccer and swimming. Golf is definitely my passion nowadays. I love working on the physical skills, but also the mental skills to continuously try and get better.

What are some of your favorite Hobbies/Activities?

When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with my family.  If I happen to find any extra time to myself, then you can probably find me golfing, gaming, fishing, or taking care of my yard.  I am currently a member at Bentwinds Country Club in Fuquay where I play whenever I get the chance!  I am looking forward to the memories that we will make while teaching my kids some of the hobbies that I love.
