Levi Moore knew he wanted, and needed, to do something to carry on his late wife Denise Moore’s legacy and memory.
Denise, an expectant mother of two unborn twins, Lucas Kenneth and Addison Clara, unexpectedly and tragically passed away in 2016. Levi, along with family and friends, created the Denise H. Moore Memorial Fund as a way to honor her and keep her memory alive while supporting local education, something near and dear to her heart.
Through the North Carolina Community Foundation the Denise H. Moore Memorial Fund accepts donations and puts on an annual Run For Dee Dee 5K (Denise’s nickname) all to help fund teachers in their journey to receive National Board Certification, help purchase library books for local schools and support Girls on the Run, an organization that Denise was a part of, that helps inspire girls to recognize their inner strength and celebrate what makes them one of a kind.
“We were adamant about having something someone could donate towards,” said Levi. “Something that was a good representation of who Denise was.”
Denise was a teacher at Banks Road Elementary School and Levi is currently a teacher at Holly Springs Elementary School.
“We put together a six-year plan when we started about how we could support different schools each year,” said Levi. “Last year we were able to donate money for books to four different schools Denise taught along with donating to the Girls on the Run. This year we plan to give money to four new schools.”
